Bed Sores

Help for Victims of Bed Sores

Bed-ridden or wheelchair-bound people can suffer from bed sores, also known as pressure ulcers. These sores can develop quickly and, if left untreated, result in very serious injuries or even death.

If a loved one lives in a nursing home and is unable to move without assistance, you need to pay close attention to his or her condition. If you notice any redness or sponginess on your loved one's back, buttocks or legs or deeper, crater-like wounds, get medical help immediately.

Then contact Stewart and DeChant for a free consultation regarding your legal options.

If we find evidence of neglect on the part of the nursing home, we can take action to obtain compensation and justice for the wrongs that have been done.

Stages of Bed Sores

Nursing home personnel and management sometimes neglect their residents, resulting in bed sores or other injuries. Residents of nursing homes are not always fully aware of their situation. It is often up to you to notice any signs of bedsores.

There are four stages of bedsores:

Stage One — The skin itches, hurts or feels spongy. White skin will look red in the affected area. Stage one bedsores for people with darker skin will look blue, purple, gray or ashen.

Stage Two — The sore looks like a blister or abrasion, and surrounding areas will appear discolored.

Stage Three — Tissue below the skin is starting to be damaged. A deep, crater-like wound may appear.

Stage Four — Damage extends to underlying muscle, bone, tendons and joints.
